My favorites thus far have been the releases from Primordial, Vanhelgd, 40 Watt Sun, and Necros Christos. There's also a ton of stuff from this year that I haven't heard yet, though.

Add the new In Solitude and Portrait albums too. Swedish heavy metal.

I have had Necros Christos for a while without listening to it yet. I should do that tonight since I loved the first one.

Number 14 is a major yes. So far for me: Primordial's Redemption at the Puritan's Hand and Burzum's Fallen. (I got to work on the whole get-more-money thing.) EDIT: Shoulda quoted but this is in relation to Brad's original post.

As far as death metal goes I think the new Vanhelgd is better than the Necros Christos. I also disagree with Brad's assertion that it's basically just a Swedeath album. IMO it's kind of like The Red in the Sky is Ours (which is pretty atypical for Swedeath) mixed with World Without God (a Finndeath album), with Swedeath-style production.

I don't know where you get TRITSIO from Vanhelgd. Must be some kind of delusion that TRITSIO fans make up to try and make other albums look better. I hear zero ATG in that album. You should probably listen to more sweDM before calling me out on it.

Vanhelgd place a lot of emphasis on dissonant, unsettling melodies. TRITSIO does the same. Seriously, the lead in the beginning of Mänsklighetens Finala Ruin would fit right in with the early At the Gates material. Stuff like that is littered throughout the album.
It's definitely closer to the typical Swedeath sound than TRITSIO is, but I hesitate to call it a typical Swedeath album.

There are no riffs in that Negative Plane. Yeah I wasn't really paying attention, I just put all the non-fiff stuff under riffs so people who avoid fiffs didn't have to sort through it =P
